Can angels hear our mental prayers?

It was recently asked if Satan can read minds. Michelle Arnold’s response was no, he cannot. What effect does this have on mental prayer to more virtuous angels, such as our guardian angels? Can saints and angels read our minds or in some other way hear our mental prayers? Is it better to speak such prayers aloud?

Angels (and saints) can hear our prayers because God allows them to do so. Prayer to angels and saints can be done mentally with the knowledge that God empowers angels and saints to know our prayers. Theoretically speaking, that would mean that Satan also could hear our internal thoughts if God permitted him to do so. Ordinarily speaking, though, Satan does not have access to our souls unless we in some way open ourselves to him. In other words, the choice to allow Satan access to our souls is ours.
