I’m teaching a young teen class and they are asking for ways to explain to their non cath friends about blessed objects.
In my opinion, this is a great apologetic. But why is it important for a priest to bless an object? Obviously if I were to pray over a rosary asking for God’s blessing this would be a great and holy thing, but why as a Catholic is it so cool for a priest in particular to do the blessing? This question isn’t me trying to be all argumentative but asking completely out of curiosity.Hi Philomena,
A blessing is a prayer to God, through and in the name of Jesus, that a person or an object will be used by God to do good according to His will, and to give greater glory to Him.
Blessing an object shows two things:
That’s why we bless things.
- that we acknowledge that all things come from almighty God who created them,
- that the best use of anything God has made is to serve Him and give Him glory and honor.
Grace to you,
Paul
Here’s a good scripture reference regarding relics:In acts 19:11-12, Paul sent out handkerchiefs and aprons that he had prayed over, and people were healed.
There are Pentecostals who will send prayer cloths to people for healing or special blessings.
Thanks for your kind words. In my opinion, this is a great apologetic. But why is it important for a priest to bless an object?
