Could someone please recommend some Catholic exegetical books about the Old and New Testaments. I am stuying theology at a college which is mainly Protestant in its teaching, and I want to make sure I stay true to Catholicism!

Sowndog,

I don’t have a suggestion on technical books on solid Catholic biblical exegesis, but if you can get ahold of any of Dr. Tim Grey’s books on the NT, he is an excellent exegete, and a fine teacher-so his teaching is clear, and well footnoted. Do you know of Fr. Seamus Madden? He’s a great priest from Belfast who was stationed here for a few years. The best preacher in the world.

God bless.

Thanks Dave. No, I don’t know Fr. Madden but the name sounds familiar- my knowledge of priests has been pretty much limited to my own parish until recently. I can’t seem to find Tim Grey online but I’ll keep an eye out for his name in bookstores and libraries.

Anything by Dr. Scott Hahn, (www.scotthahn.com).
Thank you Todd. Hahn’s book ‘Scripture Matters’ seems like type of book I am looking for.

Sowndog,

Oops, my mistake, make that Gray. I believe he has a book published through Ignatius Press. God bless.

If you like Hahn then he latest book on the sacraments is awesome. It goes all through the old and new testaments. Its called “Swear to God”
