I just had a break through with a long time friend of mine who is a Protestant/non-denominational. He just admitted Sola Scriptura didn’t make any sense to him.

I am going to pray extra hard for his conversion, and am looking for a good ex-Protestant saint for intercession.

Any suggestions??? 🙂

how about the american saint, saint elizabeth ann seton?
also, i think there is a shrine or related catholic church org…in which case, last i knew-a particualr web site would accept, on line, prayer requests…thx patrick
if interested check out

John Henry Newman, quoted as saying “To be deep in history is to cease to be Protestant.” The idea is that one cannot remain protestant if they’re informed about history because the history and inception of protestantism speaks for itself (John Henry Newman being a convert from the Church of England himself).

I know the history backwards and forwards, but I don’t care. God has called me to Catholicism, I am going.

Just said a prayer for the conversion of your friend.
May God and the Holy Spirit guide them to Catholicism

I can’t think of any Saints, but I can think of many good Catholic writers who converted from Protestantism: Peter Kreeft and G. K. Chesterton are the first ones that come to mind. (Actually, Chesterton converted from High-Church Anglicanism, which is actually a lot closer to Catholicism than any other kind of Protestantism I can think of.)
Also, I know several Protestants who converted or are thinking of converting, because when they studied the Church Fathers, much to their dismay, it turned out they ALL were basically Catholic. If your friend still has doubt about Protestantism, but not enough doubt to convert, maybe you can encourage him to read the Church Fathers (if he hasn’t yet).

What a Blessing your Life will be filled with Joy, there is so much depth to the Catholic Religion, all 2000 years, take it slowly, what is the saying Rome was not built in a Day, and read and pray and gradually you have arrived, “Well done good and Faithful Servant”.

As a Convert myself it has brought me nothing but joy in my Life.

Don’t forget Scott Hahn.
So many of the Apologists on Catholic Answers are Converts from Protestantism. There wonderful. I love to listen to them on EWTN Radio and My local Catholic Radio station. God Bless. and a Holy, Blessed New Year. Memaw

Check out the Coming Home show on EWTN. It’s literally all interviews with converts to Catholicism, and most of the interviewees are former Protestants.

The question was about Catholics who came into full communion with the Catholic Church from a Protestant tradition who are saints that can be prayed to for intercession,. So how do ETWN personalities and apologetics answer the question?

They don’t fully give the answer that the OP was looking for, but saints who converted from Protestantism seem very rare.

Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton - she became Catholic during the early post War of Independence years (1800s). She would be a good saint. One reason she became Catholic was because she desired the Eucharist.

Blessed John Henry Neumann - Not yet Canonized, but he is Beautified.

Those are two that I know of that are Saints/Almost Saints that were protestants.

St John Ogilvie
Raised Calvinist, Converted to the ancient faith, became a Jesuit, martyred at Glasgow Cross, Scotland, in 1615.

No one has thought about Elizabeth Ann Seton? This is her Wikipedia page telling all about her. She was Episcopalian, was married and had five children. You can read her whole story at Wikipedia. The house where she lived is now a church right in downtown Manhattan surrounded by sky scrapers. She is the first US citizen to be canonized.

They are great examples for today and if one is willing to watch the “Journey Home” on EWTN on Monday nights at 7 pm CST, they could learn lots. God Bless, Memaw

There is St.Elizabeth Seton. Also, you might look at some of the English Martyers.I believe St.Phillip Howard, whose family holds the title of Duke of Norfolk converted to the faith.
You can find out about him on Wikipedia. I think he was raised a protestant but as a young man converted. The Howards are one of the premire english families that have remained catholic and perhasp the most famous of the Catholic peers.
Yes there is also Cardinal Newman who is a blessed.
There might be other such saints in other european countries like Germany or Holland for example, but have no idea who they are.

Bl. John Henry Newman who I believe will be a saint and a doctor of the church someday converted from Anglicanism.
