Hello šŸ˜ƒ
Iā€™ve been considering becoming a priest (In the Eastern rite) for quite some time now, but one thing has been holding me back. Being transferred, particularly, out of country.
I love Russia and desperately want to be a part of spreading Catholicism there, I plan on trying to go to seminary there aswell. But Iā€™m scared that because I wasnā€™t born in Russia and that I speak English, Iā€™ll be transferred back to the U.S or somewhere else in Europe.
Are there any priests out there that know how common it is to be transferred out of country?

Thanks and God bless!

To become a priest you would need to satisfy your dioceseā€™s vocations team that you had a vocation.

Then you would need a bishop to sponsor you and he would decide which seminary you were sent to.

If you are ordained as a priest your bishop would decide where you serve but in general I do not think bishops force their priests to serve where they do not want. Sometimes a priest may be asked to serve in another country. I suspect this would be for a defined period of time and would be requested rather than imposed.

Eastern Orthodoxy, particularly the Russian Orthodox Church, do not like Catholicism imposing, as they see it, on their territory. In this they are supported by Russian state authorities and Catholicism is not welcomed in Russia.

The Russian Catholic Church currently has no bishops. It isnā€™t really self governing, but is rather run from the Vatican. AFAIK, there are two current RCC parishes in the US, in LA and San Francisco. Anyway, you might contact one of them about how they handle vocations.

Also, I believe that the RCC in russia is currently under ā€œno poachingā€ orders from Romeā€“that is, evangelized the unchurched, but hands of the ROC faithful.

Yes, I was going to say, I think we are supposed to be focused on working towards restoring communion with the Eastern/Oriental Orthodox Churches/Church(es) of the East rather than converting individual Christians to the Catholic Church.
