Can Catholics be Freemasons?

I’ve heard that Catholics are prohibited from joining a Masonic Lodge, is this true? If so, what are the reasons for this? Are there similar prohibitions against Catholics joining the Knights Templar, Order of the Eastern Star, DeMolay, or Rainbow Girls?
