I was watching Addams Family movie and saw Morticia Addams contacted her dead mother and father though a Ouija board and crystal ball. They had a casual conversation. I also have dead relatives and my father passed away more than 10 years ago. As a Catholic I know that we believe in continuation of life after death. Therefore, I would like to ask whether anybody can share their stories if they had ever tried to contact their dearly departed. Of course, I would never use magic or Ouija board and yes, I know the Addams Family is fake.

No, we are not supposed to try and contact the dead. We should trust God in all things and not need to ask the dead about the past or our future or theirs.

No, absolutely not. Occult practices are strictly forbidden by the Catholic Church. You said you would never use the magic or a Ouija Board, but it’s still a big no-no. It’s still contacting the dead, which is a demonic practice. Don’t do it.

The bible says not to speak with the dead because they lie. They are not your friendly or familiar spirits, but are demons pretending to be your loved ones.

There are a number of bible verses that have to do with not speaking or trying to speak to the dead, and in Leviticus, God sounds pissed off enough about it to ‘cut such off’ from Himself.

Leviticus 20:1-6
6 Should anyone turn to ghosts and spirits and prostitute oneself with them, I will turn against that person and cut such a one off from among the people.

Well, I listen to a paranormal show called Coast to Coast. It’s been on radio since the eighties. Rule number one is never use an ouija board, that’s well known to bring demons and other negative spirits into your life. So, a hundred percent even from a non-Catholic perspective those things have a bad reputation and no one should use one.

As for seeing a medium, which is more common, no you shouldn’t do that either. So no Oujia board, no Mediums, no contacting the dead and no ghost hunting.

Art was great. George just ain’t Art… John B Wells is pretty good though.

I recall one Halloween a guest host had Catholic Demonologist Adam Blai on. That was an excellent show!

I also have dead relatives including dead father, mother, in-laws, and spouse. Dead friends too.

Catholics don’t “try to contact their dearly departed” in the sense of calling them up with a crystal ball or Ouija board or asking them to appear in the room. This is considered conjuring up the dead and it is forbidden by the Church because, as someone else said, it is likely to open up a portal to the demonic and get some demon on the line rather than your dear departed Dad.

Not only is such “conjuring up” forbidden by the church, it’s completely unnecessary. If you want to talk to a deceased person who you have reason to think is in Heaven, whether it’s a saint of the Church or your dear departed Dad, just talk to them. If God wills them to get your message, they will get it. Don’t forget also to pray for your deceased loved one’s soul in case they are not yet in Heaven but are still in Purgatory.

I talk to my dead loved ones, and many saints, all the time. I don’t need or use a crystal ball or other “magic” and I don’t try to command them to appear in my living room. I just converse with them and ask them for help (the “help” is understood that they pray to God for me or otherwise go through God with any communication, in other words, God is controlling this and it’s all according to God’s will). This is not considered calling up the dead, and it’s totally normal. So if your question is can you just talk to your deceased Dad (or other deceased relative or friend), without any occult stuff involved, the answer is Yes. Don’t expect to get an answer back though. God might permit you to get one but you should never expect or demand one.

I guess this technique is the closest I can get to talk to the dead. Thanks.

Just because you know it’s fake doesnt make it a good idea to expose yourself to such “entertainment.” That such concepts seem worth considering might be a testament to that. Just my own opinion.
