Thank you very much for the responses. I actually got this from my cousin that converted to the catholic faith on the same day as me (10-24-2010). He “claims” to have heard this from a priest, but can not verify his source.

I have learned a lesson now for sure, as i normaly would not take any of this for granted unless it`s stated in CCC. It caught me a bit off guard as he told me, but now i know better.

This is why i enjoy this place so much, so many helpful and kind catholics that can push a somewhat new, sometimes stubborn (i am working on it) and yes, even scared catholic in the right direction.

Much appreciated.
👍
Oh, the priest probably didn’t like his steak rare.😉

Yes, when you hear things it’s always a good idea to check them out. People come up with the weirdest ideas.

You know, the funny thing is that my cousin keeps on insisting this, even after i e-mailed the parish priest at the parish i attend, which verify what you have told to me.

And also, his and mine sponsor claims the same thing. She says: it`s been said that we should not eat meat of strangled, badly treated animals and liver from them.

Well, i wonder why they keep insisting this, when it is incorrect. But, i am not listening to them. I listen to my parish priest and follow the CCC.

It is about humans!😃
Catholics are definitely not permitted to eat Soylent Green, but there may be an allowance for long pig in certain South Pacific dioceses…

I’d love to have some good German Blutwurst right now!

This is probably what your cousin is referring to:

“Acts 15:19-20 For which cause, judge that they who from among the Gentiles are converted to God are not to be disquieted: But that we write unto them, that they refrain themselves from the pollutions of idols and from fornication and from things strangled and from blood.”

“Acts 15:28-29 For it hath seemed good to the Holy Ghost and to us to lay no further burden upon you than these necessary things: That you abstain from things sacrificed to idols and from blood and from things strangled and from fornication: from which things keeping yourselves, you shall do well. Fare ye well.”

Emphasis mine. 🙂

Yes, i am aware of that and actually abstain from meat on every wednesday and friday. But someone told me that i should not eat liver pate or anything related with liver as it is “blood food”. So i wonder, is this correct or not?
Certain of the Eastern Churches in Union with Rome maintain the older fasting traditions; the Ethiopians essentially retain most of the Kosher laws, tho’ some of the details might vary. (And that’s year round, not just during the 4-5 fasting seasons.)

(Remember: The Catholic Church is 23 Sui Iuris {self-governing} churches in one communion; while the Roman is one of those 23, it’s also about 98% of the people…)

It thus is possible that some Catholics are bound by their particular Church Sui Iuris’ rules to different fasting and abstinence restrictions, especially during the major fasts (St Phillips’ Fast/Advent, and Lent).
