Can Catholics participate in non-Catholic weddings?

As a Catholic, can I be the best man at my brother in law’s wedding this September, officiated by a Justice of the Peace? 35 years ago my best friend was married in a Protestant ceremony and my pastor at the time said I couldn’t and shouldn’t, so I didn’t.
