Curiosity! As you know I think I am not a believer but very interested in how people come to believe in things. I think the Catholic belief in the real presence is one of the most extraordinary beliefs - something Jesus himself is said to have pointed out. So when this thought occurred to me I wondered how the belief was manifested in a most difficult circumstance - someone who Catholics would see as having a real, urgent need (in many cases) and with no prospect of eating or drinking. the responses have shown me how a way around these apparent obstacles can be found witting the belief system.

Considering the Church allows communion to be given by a dropper or spoon, I would see no need for it.
