Can I attend non-Catholic weddings without going against the teachings of the Catholic Church?

I have a family member that was Baptized Catholic and was a practicing Catholic for over 20 years. They are being married in a non-Catholic ceremony. Can I attend without going against the teachings of the Catholic Church. Also another family member is doing the same thing but they have changed from Catholic to Lutheran. Can I attend their wedding/ reception. I am in a quandry, my local priest says to attend but how do I stand up for the Church and be so passive.
