I asked this to the general populace on another thread, but they haven’t given me a consistent answer. My parents want me to clean the bathrooms today; and before you suggest it, no, “explaining nicely” is not going to help. I’ve tried before. Is it a mortal sin to do housecleaning and other manual labor on Sundays? I already went to Mass yesterday evening on a whim; I know it’s a sin of presumption, but would it be better to just abide by their wishes and do the housework today, then not go to Mass tonight (since my obligation is already fulfilled) and confess it later?
Please help!

Hi,

If the bathroom needs to be cleaned on a Sunday, then clean it. Ordinarily, house cleaning should be done on another day. But when messes unexpectedly happen, they need to be cleaned up. Cleaning the bathroom should not need to take all day. If, on the other hand, you had all week to do the cleaning and let it go until Sunday, then you need to go to Confession for being lazy–or at least irresponsible.
