My husband and I just went through RCIA at a parish 20 miles away from our home. (We had friends that attended there that introduced us to the Catholic faith) We’ve recently been visiting a parish closer to our home in our small town and we feel better about being in our own community to worship.

My question is, their RCIA is getting ready to start up and I would love to sit through it and learn it from a different perspective. I liked our group last year, but I sometimes felt some things could have been explained a little better or more in depth. I am the quiet type and wished I could have probed with more questions more so than I did.
I’d also love to hear everyone’s story on why they are converting.

Has anyone done that before? I am curious on how they would react if I asked to attend.

My husband went through twice, once to convert and once to help. Talk to the pastor or whoever is in charge of RCIA at your parish. If they have adult education, they may prefer you to take that, if not, they will probably welcome you to the RCIA.

I did that before. My RCIA program was, well, terrible! When I heard of another, I sat in on most of the classes to learn more about the faith. It was great.

Ask! It can’t hurt. It would be a great way to met other converts and the folks who are standing up as their sponsors are all going to be strong in their faith.Who knows? You might get the opportunity to be a sponsor next year also.

My RCIA program encouraged everyone to return the next year. You do get a different perspective, things settle in and make more sense, plus you might be someone’s sponsor!

RCIA is for people who are not Catholic, specifically not Baptized (not Christian). Catholics who wish to learn more about the Catholic faith should become involved in Adult Catechesis programs, study groups, etc.

Hopefully they would point you to another group for new Catholics or an other educational type program.
