Can I get a hysterectomy?

i am 49 years old and have 6 children. i am having concerns about my female organs medically and, before going to my doctor, wanted to know that, if they advise me to have a hysterectomy, is that considered a sterility procedure at my age?? my husband is concerned about my soul and does not want me to jeopardize myself for the sake of this procedure.
