I am a cradle Catholic and my wife(practicing Catholic) is converted from Protestant. Her family members are Protestants and Pentecosts include few Pastors. My questin is, can I give donation to their Churches?

I go to my partners church. He is Seventh Day Adventist. I’ll be darned if I am donating ONE penny to them. I go to be with my partner. NOTHING else.

Why would you want to? You are only a visitor right? If they visited your church would they give money? Well, even if they would, that’s besides the point. Support your own parish or give money to the poor but I wouldn’t give any money to a church that is opposed to the Catholic Church and even if they say to your face they aren’t… trust me on this… they are.

I would not. I used to sponsor the little girl across the street in different activities they did to raise money for her Christian School. I have stopped doing so because her parents left the Catholic Church and pride themselves on the fact that they have been able to talk most of both of their families out of the Catholic Church into their “non-denominational” church. Your money could well be going to funding programs to “help” people leave the Catholic Church.

If you read my earlier post, I said I give NOTHING…AND I DON’T WANT to … either. And I DO support my own parish. I am an OBSERVER ONLY at my partners church.

No! Please do not donate to Non-Catholic Churches. This is divisive. You could be very well supporting further division of the Church. This money can/will likely go into evangelization which could end up pulling Catholics out of the Church.

Knowing what we know as Catholics, I would even question whether or not this is sinful.

Carol, I am even not a visitor of their churches. Last 10 years me and my wife never visited their churches. I am just asking.

Hi Kathy… my post wasn’t directed at you… it was for the OP who was asking… I understood that you said you wouldn’t give any money.

Weren’t you the poster who once said you sometimes prayed the Rosary during your partner’s church service… it may have been someone else… .:hmmm:… anyhow… the thought of that always makes me smile!

And now, to the OP… since you don’t even visit I think you are totally off the hook with having to contribute to their churches.

Some people might be surprised (or even upset) about it, but part of a recent weekend’s collection at my home Roman Catholic parish was for a local Baptist Church.

Several years ago my parish started to “tithe” (10%) of the weekend collections to some designated organization or group (usually outside the parish). The pastor and a committee of lay people generate or receive suggestions for organizations and select which ones will receive a week’s tithe. The list for the upcoming weeks is published in the bulletin. (For the last year or so, the contribution was cut back to 5% of the collection, so it is really only a “demi-tithe”.)

For 5/22/2005 the recipient was the “Restoration Fund for the First Baptist Church of Jamaica Plain, MA”, a church which was heavily damaged by a fire this winter.

I am sooooo sorry. A bit later, I realized that it truly wasn’t directed at me. Please accept my apology. And yes , I DO say the rosary in my partners church…makes 'em squirm!

I used to be a Methodist. Although I don’t go to their church anymore or donate money to the church, the church does have a food pantry for the poor of the area. I don’t see anything wrong in donating food for hungry poor people. Nor do I see anything wrong in going to a Protestant church’s rummage sale if the money goes for charitable causes.

I am actually shocked at a lot of these answers. I thought we were to help others in need, whether they were believers or not, or what church they go to.
You can donate your money to whoever you want to. It’s YOUR money ( thankfully given to you by Jesus ), and I believe it is the attitude with which you are giving that matters. We shouldn’t not help others who are in need.
I don’t think Christ would tell you to donate to only one church.
I’ll say it again, I am shocked at a lot of these answers.

What difference does it make if money is given to the Protestant Church? I go to rummage sales at Protestant Churches and when I purchase items at the rummage sale the money that I pay for the items goes to that Protestant Church. My brother converted from the Catholic Church and joined a Non Denominational Church and if I ever go to church services at my brothers Non Denominational Church I would put a dollar in the collection basket. In fact when I go to my brothers Non Denominational Church for my Nephew and Nieces school activities, sometimes they pass around the collection basket and I put a dollar bill in the collection basket.

Of course YOU CAN, but why would you want to? Wouldn’t you rather support God’s One Body and Bride of Christ, the Catholic Church? I don’t understand why you would even want to. Please do tell.

Hi Kathy:

Just curious–do you mean your husband? Boyfriend? Why do you go to his SDA church? Have you shared your faith with him? What does he say? Why don’t you attend Mass? Or do you? It’s most puzzling to me when 1 partner is Catholic and another something else, (as my hubby as well). I’m learning how to handle this too!!! As for now, he and kids go mostly with me, and occasionally to their Protestant “do your own thing” church. I’m prayin especially for my teen son, who’s hopefully entering the confirmation program this fall!

God Bless Kathy~~

Hey Sparkle,
I mean my boyfriend…sounds funny as he is 52 and I am 51! Anyway, I do go to Mass and several times a week I might add too. He has accompanied me several times as an observer. And that is the ONLY thing I do at his church OBSERVE! Oh and also have raised a few eyebrows when I get out my rosary.
I pray every day for him. It’s just that we both were away from our respective faiths for many years. This is the beginning of a long spiritual journey, taken one day at a time.

The Baptist church that I used to attend gave money to missionaries. It did not register in my mind at the time, but some of those missionaries were working in Catholic countries like Mexico!!! I could kick myself for my own stupidity.
