What say you? Lets assume I do not mean during the Lords prayer.

Holding hands is neither prohibited nor required within the Ruthenian nor Roman rubrics. Probably isn’t in the Chaldean, either, but I don’t know. Provided you are appropriately prayerful, and not causing a distraction by so doing.

Just don’t make a show of it, nor let it distract you from prayer.

Now, I often hold my children’s hands during the DL. No one cares; né, several prefer I do, as it keeps the 4yo from running amok.

My wife of 43 years and I often do it when we are at mass and I am not assisting as deacon. Don’t forget, the two are now one flesh. There is nothing wrong with this. Its like attending the highest form of prayer we have (the mass) as one.

Goin to a Byzantine Liturgy for the first time tonight.

It is not appropriate to hold hands with anyone during the liturgy, to include the Lords Prayer, in the N.O. the optional sign of peace after the Lords Prayer is the only time anything like this is licit. Our focus is on the sacrafice individually as a Church. The men who hold hands during Mass are not fullfilling there role as men. We have too many soft men in the Church today. Men can hold hands and pray with there wifes all they want after Mass as they lead there family.

I say why???

I dont think it’s a good idea. I would find it too distracting personally, and I wouldnt want to - I’d want my entore focus on the mass, which it wouldnt be if I was holding my wife’s hand.

When one prays daily with his/her spouse, there is an extra closeness with what is going on when a couple worships and adores together. Holding hands does not distract from that.

One older couple in my parish hold hands all during Mass. I find their loving and devoted presence to be almost sacramental.

Do my wife and I qualify as an older couple. We have only been married for 43 years.

This couple is “mixed-ages” and he’s way older (late 70s, while she’s still a young gal in her later 60s). Married 50 yrs for sure. Keep marching, Ed.
