It is the Feast of Catherine of Siena and I was wandering whether I could celebrate with a glass of red wine and meat…on A FRIDAY!

Dear friend

You can celebrate with a glass of wine and some meat, but you must fast from something else in it’s place. Perhaps as well say an extra prayer, maybe to the Saint who’s feast it is calling on their intercession which is most powerful on their feast day.

God Bless you and much love and peace to you

Teresa

Are there different rules in different places?

As far as I knew, there is no longer a requirement to fast on Fridays outside of Lent. Is U.S. different than U.K. in this regard, maybe?

Theoretically, yes. Canon Law gives permission for each National Conference to substitute a different penitential practice for Fridays outside of Lent.

Whoops too late. Over in Uk it was coming up to lunch. Is it only when solemnities occur that you are not meant to fast? I might ‘give up Tv’ although that isn’t a hardship for me

I know about abstaining from meat on Friday but this is the first I heard about giving up wine, what gives?
