Can I offer up Communion for someone who has died?

A close friend died yesterday, suddenly. Not a Catholic, but a lovely, caring individual. At Mass, I felt compelled, not just to pray for her, but to offer the efficacious results of the Eucharist for her. I wanted her to receive this gift, through me as a proxy. Does this make sense?

I do this all the time for deceased loved ones. I don’t think of myself as a “proxy,” per se; I just “offer up” my reception of Communion for the deceased person. It’s up to God how he uses that offering for the deceased.
