Hello everyone.

This is my first post (and thread) here on Catholic Answers.

I grew up in the Catholic Church. I was baptized, made my first penance, and received my first communion in the Church. However, I never received the sacrament of confirmation.

Having been away from the Church for years, I am suddenly desiring to return to the Church and start attending Mass. My question is: can I partake in the Eucharist (the true body and blood of Jesus Christ) if I have not been confirmed in the Church?

Thank you all.

You received your first communion, so if you go to the Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession) and confess all sins you have committed since your last confession, you are able to receive the Eucharist, you just have to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation, also talk to the Priest about receiving the sacrament of Confirmation, as im sure something can be done, it just wont be at easter (you may be sent to the bishop).

God Bless You.

It’s not necessary to be confirmed to receive communion at Mass.

You’ll need to go to confession before receiving communion. Since it’s been a while you may find it helpful to make an appointment with the priest so that you’ll have time to talk without worrying that other people are waiting in line. That would also be a good opportunity to talk about what led you away from the Church and what has led you back again. If there were problems that led you away, perhaps the priest can help you resolve them.

Talk to him about confirmation as well. Some parishes have adult confirmation programs and you can get involved in that. Some parishes use RCIA for adults needing confirmation. The priest will know what’s available.

Welcome home!

The previous posts covered your answer. I just wanted to say “Welcome home”. Peace.

What everyone else says is true…you have to go to reconciliation first…then you can start receiving communion again.

That was pretty much me a year ago…although I don’t remember ever having my first penance but I know I had first communion when I was a kid. I went to reconciliation…and then have been receiving communion. And going to reconciliation more. I can really appreciate that sacrament a lot more.

But…you will end up wanting to be confirmed…that is the case for me:D I will be confirmed at the Easter Vigil…my case is a little unique because my husband is converting so I’m going through RCIA with him. Either way its a way to learn the faith…sometimes learning more then Cradle Catholics.

Welcome Home:thumbsup:

Thank you all for your helpful responses and your warm welcomes back to the Church.🙂
