Hello

I received a Catholic Annulment from my first marriage. I am currently in a civil marriage and have one child with my husband. He still needs to get an annulment before we can marry in the church. Can I receive Holy Communion? I’d like to receive Communion. Please advise what my next step is. Do I have wait to get married before I receive communion?

Thank you!!

You would have to wait until you are validly married. Marriage is considered a public act by the Church. When anyone is in a civil marriage that is not recognized by the Church they are considered to be publicly living in a situation is contrary to Church teaching. Until that situation gets rectified then neither spouse should receive communion.
Life is often messy and situations are rarely straightforward, your parish priest should be able to assist you in moving forward. Hopefully your husband is willing to attempt to obtain an annulment and then you can validate your marriage in the Church.
