I just recently set a wedding date (Sept. 5th, 2008) and I have a problem. Neither I nor my fiancee was confirmed. I really want to get married the traditional way in a church, but I don’t know if i will be able to. I heard that we may have to take classes and that the 6 months before our wedding may not even be enough time…What are some other options for us?
Should you as Catholics attempt marriage outside of the Catholic Church, the Church will not recognize that marriage as valid. Further, you will sin mortally every time you have sexual relations with someone with whom you are not validly married.
Your first priority in planning your wedding should be to arrange the wedding with the Church first! You’ve got it backwards. The reception and where you have it is not more important that the sacrament of Matrimony itself. You really need to know more about your Faith. I suggest that you get the book, “Good News About Sex and Marriage” by Christopher West. You can get it through shop.catholic.com See your priest about what you need to do. Don’t start you marriage on the wrong foot. You are in our prayers.
