The jury is ordered to ignore Abba’s comments since the OP asks “Is our legal system adequate to judge God? Why or why not?” and so evidence of an actual legal system attempting to actually judge God is certainly on-topic.
I have actually found this thread very humorous and have tried to keep my laughter and chuckles to myself.
It is a serious topic, but there is something very humorous about it, especially when we drag a chicken by the feathers to the picture.
Okay, I’ll give you that one. Sustained. We will admit the evidence for what it is worth and that’s it.
However, may it please the court, the basis of that case was about natural evil. The question would be along the lines that if you lost your entire family in the Haitian or Japanese earthquake, would you meekly accept it as part of God’s plan, or scream at God demanding justice? And in that situation, where everything is taken, can we judge someone for judging God?
Two situations come to mind, one for each of your examples.
My son’s best friend, Manuel, a beautiful child, died at the age of nine in a car accident. The whole family was in the car. Everyone was severely injured and Manuel died. A man in a SUV was speeding and hit them from behind. Some metal from the back of the car went into little Manuel’s head. The whole family was practicing Catholics. It took a little time for the parents to be able to invite me and I learned when I did finally see them that Manuel did not want to go on that trip that afternoon. He wanted to go to my house and play with my children. In their pain, they apologized to me. I, of course, said that there was certainly no need and that we make decisions like that every day.
Innocente, there was something about that lady that encouraged us all and filled us with dignity. By all, I mean everyone in town that new her and the whole community of a Catholic school. She was at peace and her faith was not shaken - at all.
On the other hand, I once new a lady, the mother of a dear friend of mine. My friend was very wealthy - a multi-billionaire. He was building a lake in his property himself. One day, the tractor tipped and my friend was crushed. I went to visit the mother. She confided to me that she was angry at God. Concerned, I spoke with a pastor at my university. He laughed and said that he has become convinced that God has a sense of humor. He told me not to worry that God can taken. He said that the lady was going through a lot of pain and a great loss. He said that in the nature of things, children bury their parents not the other way around.
In our ignorance there are times that we can be angry at God, feel completely perplexed or consider His existence absurd. Many things for that matter can happen, but fortunately for us, it is God who will judge us in the end. God who is All Knowing.
