Can I use any types of "veils" to cover my head during prayers?

I always cover my head during prayers, and for that, I use my scarves, shawls or anything usable. Without it, I just feel awkward. I use it as a respect towards the Divine Being, and besides it, the veil helps me to concentrate on prayers.

Lately, my mind began wandering off around such things as whether or not I should actually buy one proper chapel veil/ mantilla. Of course, it won’t make my prayers more “effective” but for the peace of mind, I checked some online and found some really beautiful veils but those were wedding veils. I had a strong urge to buy it. But on a second thought, I asked myself " Is it even appropriate you silly creature?"

So, there it is. Yet another silly question : Can I use any “veils” for prayers? ( I give you the permission to laugh as much as you want).

Since there is no obligation to veil, this would be purely a matter of personal choice. If it helps you, you could put a sock or a sombrero or a propeller beanie on your head. Whatever you find useful. It would make no difference to anyone but you.

You can use what you want.

Most women who cover their heads to pray are trying to be modest, so they usually don’t use anything excessive or that would make them stand out. No super-elaborate veil, or very big or unusual hat, or anything weird like wearing a t-shirt on your head. But like I said it is really up to you because this is your private choice.

I like the sombrero idea.

Headcoverings are much less common now than they were many decades ago. Men’s hats are also less common.

Remembering back to then, I saw headcoverings as simple as a paper tissue attached with a bobby pin.

Personally, I like a headscarf 🧕, or a lacy mantilla that matches my hair color.

It’s all down to personal preference.

When I was at school, hats were part of the uniform for the girls. The nuns would walk up and down the aisle and put a handkerchief on the head of any girl who was not wearing her hat.

It is a matter of personal piety, and if you are a female, you can wear any kind of head covering you wish. It’s up to you. There is biblical support for a woman covering her head in prayer, but supposedly, that is a culturally conditioned thing, and not a divine mandate.

I am absolutely inspired whenever I see a woman in Mass with her head covered. How she chooses to do that is of no concern to me.
