I am learning how to make rosaries and planning to do so for Christmas gifts. I have a number of old broken rosaries in a bag that I have kept over the years. Is it acceptable to use parts of broken rosaries to make new rosaries. I was thinking of reusing the crucifix and medals in the center and burying the remaining unused parts. I don’t want to desecrate a holy object.

It’s better to use parts of rosaries from broken rosaries if they can’t be mended, rather than to discard them.
Lovely intended gifts! God bless you.

YES!

My church actually has a ministry where you can drop old, broken rosaries and metals in a box and the ladies who make jewelry will make them into new rosaries. Some skilled knights even re-solder little rings on to medals and electroplate them in fine metal so they can be worn again. Then they get local jewelers and gift shops to donate basic chains.

They are then sold for a nice price at the holiday fair and all the proceeds go to the food pantry.

And OF COURSE, Father is on hand to bless any rosary or metal. 🤣

Yes, do salvage them. many prayers have worn them out and many prayers can keep the prayers flowing, and many prayerful hands will pass on "new’ rosaries.
