is ignoring your doctor always a sin?
I don’t mean not taking pills.
I mean if he says stuff like (I have OCD) no homework past 9.
facebook for half an hour.

Well what if I have a lot of homework to do, and I’m really slow and distracted.
Can I ignore my Dr.'s orders?

Why not discuss them with the doctor and come to an agreement?

No, it’s not sinful at all. Don’t worry about it. Your doctor isn’t the Lord.

Remember that almost anything, in theory, has potential to be sinful. If you go to church 24/7, ignore your friends and family, don’t work and are provide nothing to society, that’s sinful too.

It’s not sinful but it’s also not really wise. If you have concerns about the things your doctor is suggesting then you should discuss them with him but remember that those suggestions are given to you for the benefit of your health.

It’s not always a sin to ignore doctor’s orders. But if you trust your doctor and know he is helping you, yes, you should. If you think that your doctor has misdiagnosed you and you don’t trust him, get a second opinion.

But you’ve been diagnosed with OCD, that means that you are doing things that require correction for your own health and he is trying to guide you in order to make those corrections. He is setting boundaries for you, and the challenge you are having is resisting your OCD in order to not cross those boundaries. I’m sure these are very very difficult boundaries for you. He’s trying to teach you to control those impulses, and channel your anxiety without turning your life upside down and improve your quality of life.

I would not ignore my Dr.'s orders. There is a reason why he set those boundaries. If you have a lot of homework, hit the books and get it done. Before 9pm. Don’t waste time obsessing about it, do it, quickly check it, and put it away. Don’t waste time picking at it, doing it over and over, and making it more than it is. I’m sure there is a reason why he set that limit… I’m sure there is something relevent about your homework and Facebook routines that you’re not telling us…and that’s okay, you don’t have to. But follow your doctor’s orders. They were prescribed to help you 🙂
