Can mediocre students become priests?

I’m not the greatest student and have very little college level education. However, for some reason I feel God is leading me to the priesthood. I want to be faithful to him. There are some other obstacles as well but for now my question is: Do seminaries accept mediocre students or would I have to “prove” myself in a secular college first?

A bishop or religious order will certainly consider your academic record when studying whether or not you are suited to the priesthood. Training for the priesthood is rigorous and an academic record is one means of ascertaining whether a potential candidate can master the necessary training. But, if you feel called to the priesthood, go ahead and submit your vocation to the Church for assessment. Mediocre students have become priests in the past (e.g., St. John Vianney, Ven. Solanus Casey) and so it is possible that you too could be accepted for priestly formation. Indeed, you might ask St. John Vianney and Ven. Solanus Casey for their intercession for your vocation.
