My husband (who is a cup minister at other masses) wants to hand me the cup after he receives when we go to communion. I objected but couldn’t explain why. Am I wrong?

You are correct. Your husband cannot do this.

Why would he want to? What are his reasons (if you do not mind me asking)?

Only if he is an EMHC at that Mass. Otherwise he is just another lay person attending the Mass.

You are not wrong. He may only administer the cup to you when he is acting as an EMHC.

*Redemptionis Sacramentum *says (referencing GIRM #160):
[94.] It is not licit for the faithful “to take . . . by themselves . . . and, still less, to hand . . . from one to another” the sacred host or the sacred chalice. Moreover, in this regard, the abuse is to be set aside whereby spouses administer Holy Communion to each other at a Nuptial Mass.

Thanks for the prompt reply. He wanted to emphasize our coupleness as in the nuptial mass.

Mass is **NOT **a place to be romantic and emphasize your “coupleness”. (A side point, this drives me crazy when I hear couples plan their weddings and it’s all about them and how romantic everything is). You are not to be focusing on anyone but Jesus while you are receiving the Eucharist. Your coupleness can be emphasized in many other ways- this one, however, is totally unnecessary.
