Can my non-Catholic father receive the anointing of the sick?

My father was recently diagnosed with brain cancer. My mom and I are both Catholic, but he is Presbyterian. Given the circumstances, and if he consents, can a priest anoint him? Also, can a priest give him Communion?

My sympathies and prayers are with your father and your family during this difficult time. Here are the circumstances under which your father may receive the sacraments from the Code of Canon Law:

If there is a danger of death or if, in the judgement of the diocesan bishop or of the episcopal conference, there is some other grave and pressing need, Catholic ministers may lawfully administer these same sacraments [confession, the Eucharist, and the anointing of the sick] to other Christians not in full communion with the Catholic Church, who cannot approach a minister of their own community and who spontaneously ask for them, provided that they demonstrate the Catholic faith in respect of these sacraments and are properly disposed (canon 844 §4).

If your father meets these conditions and desires the sacraments, contact a Catholic priest and ask him to visit your father both to prepare him and to administer the sacraments.
