I am a Catholic Convert, and my children were baptized in the Catholic Church when they were 4, 6, and 7 years old(on the same day). However, because of various reasons, mostly involving lack of transportation, they began attending going to Church with their Father who is Eastern Orthodox, and they also received first communion there.
My question is, since they live with me for parts of the year, and since the Orthodox Sacraments are considered “valid”, can they receive communion in the Catholic Church now, even though the Orthodox Church doesn’t really like for them to do this? They are now aged 7 1/2, 9 and 10.
Also, am I in any way causing them to sin by not making them follow the dietary laws of the Orthodox Church? (such as not eating meat on all Wednesdays and Fridays etc.) Their father has never mentioned it, but I don’t want them to be confused or feel like they are “sinning” if they don’t follow the Orthodox rules.
