Can one "return" to Catholicism after joining another church?

I am posting this for my friend who is exploring Churches with me.

I was surprised to find that she was actually Catholic for a short time before she became LDS. She apparently joined the CC at 18 after a brief series of lessons with a Priest (not Catechism or RCIA), she was baptised and confirmed but only attended mass a few times before being pulled off into the LDS church. This was 30 - 35 years ago.

Now that she has left the Mormons, she dearly wants to go back the the Catholic Church but believes she cannot. Can she? Does she need to start over with classes and be “rebaptised”?

I usually don’t post for other people but she is just so distraught over this.

Jane,

I am thrilled to hear of your friend’s return to the Church! I’ve linked six thread below for you because of the resources in each. The first two lay out what your friend needs to do to return to the Eucharist, the next two will help her to prepare for Confession, and the last two are just in case she wondered. If you have any further questions or concerns that are not answered by these links, please contact Catholic Answers directly. Tell your friend, “Welcome home!”
