I visiting professor, an expert in personality, once gave a talk and ended it with this question. A related question is whether it’s moral to kill of one personality and replacing it with another.

I’m also a professional when it comes to personality and yes indeed, I believe personality can be changed, and as to being moral, I think it’s OK.

I am and will be the same *person *my entire life - and even in heaven and the new heavens and new earth.

That being said - that does not mean that I am not to change - to repent and be changed by the Gospel - to put off the old man in baptism and put on Christ in Baptism…to undergo a “renewal of the mind” as St. Paul put it…to grow to change in various aspects …to increase in virtue…to be purified by the Love of God …to be transformed in the resurrection!

God changed me. At first I resisted to the point of shedding a tear, but then I could hear from Heaven the giggling and laughter of the saints. I rapidly came back to my senses and allowed death and rebirth occur.

Personality != person.

The personality can be changed, and in fact, does so continuously throughout life, but you remain the same individual you always were. In fact, you will be that same individual when you are released from death.

The preponderance of research in personality psychology has concluded that one’s core personality is very difficult to change, whereas peripheral features of one’s personality may change. Further, as you probably know, personality disorders are notoriously difficult to treat.

Personality is relatively stable throughout life, but that does not mean that it cannot change, even easily in some individuals.

I’m not the same ‘person’ I was 30 years ago, but my memory remains intact.

You are the same person (human being) provided your a) body, b) consciousness, or c) memory remains.

I talking about basic personality traits, such as introversion/extroversion.

Since our personality contains that which is genetic/innate AND our experience, then for sure it can and does usually alter/mature. Some of us become more reflective over time, others more loving, yet others more explosive and reflex, etc…

There are 16 personality types. Your myer-briggs type does not change. Ever.

There are many personality scales, some with just three factors. Nothing that special about the Myers-Briggs.

Again, these personality scales all do dismally in predicting behavior.

1)Myers-Briggs is very informative though.
  1. Also, your particular struggle with the seven deadly sins is peculiar to you. That is, how does the stain of original sin particularly affect you? Thus, what are your values and how do you apply them in your life - your treasure reveals your heart.
Those are two good ways of noticing.
