Someone asked me this question and I did not know how to answer…so I ask you all…can we baptize our pets?..if so, how does one go about doing such? We all love our pets and consider them members of the family…can we baptize them?

No. Pets can be blessed with water and that can sometimes be mistaken for baptism but only humans can be baptized.

Look at it this way… what is the POINT of baptism? Once you understand that, it doesn’t matter whether you can baptise your pet or not because you’ll realize they don’t need to be baptised.

Sure , you can go in the backyard and Baptise you dog all you want. But it will have no effect. You can Baptise your car, but it wont have any “effect”. Why? The car nor the dog have a immortal soul.

Since they unlike humans do not have a soul they are free of Original Sin.

But I love my dog and do think we can BLESS them just as we BLESS a house or a religious medal. We BLESS all these to be used in a way pleasing to God. That’s my two-cents.

Pets cannot be baptized until they reach the age of reason and are able to make a formal commitment to their Faith. But baptism by immersion can be a real ordeal, especially with the larger animals and those with claws.

(just kidding. it’s not in the CCC)

No. Only human beings can be baptized. But they can be blessed though, which is not the same as baptism. Baptizing animals is pointless because they don’t require redemption.

Of course. You’ll get no argument from me on that score.
