Faith in Christ saves you.

Religion is mostly traditions of men, which cannot save you.

Only Christ Himself saves.

Nothing! not faith, good works nothing…A sharing in Gods life is a free gift of God. Not possible to earn something like that in ANY way.

sorry but your answer confuses me much. how could Christ saves us if we don’t have faith and good works. the bibles says “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household” (Acts 16:30,31). and people shall be judged by the Lord according to our deeds (Revelation), so, it is important to do the will of God (good works) for our salvation.

Religion is a system structured though faith, which is what saves us. As Catholics, we exercise our faith by believing and performing good works. Actions speak louder than words after all 🙂 Have faith and love God above all else! Listen to Him and He will show you the way to Him so you can be saved.

The Church is the tool of God to save us, so we are saved by the Church(Extra Ecclesiam nulla salus). But we have to answer this by faith and work. No faith and work means denying the salvation, because God does not force us. So we are saved by faith and work too.

He’s everything. I know what you mean.

However, we do have free will - I believe. So if we’re put to test and chose to do the good thing instead of the bad, did we not somehow contribute to a share in His life?

I believe it was Paul who wrote that we “participate” in Christ’s suffering. That we must “finish” that suffering. Yes, Christ’s suffering paid the penalty for our sin. But if we leave it at that, then it does us no good. Learning scripture, and theology, and then putting all that into practice is important as well. As a convert, I think the one thing that is missing is the teaching of apologetic material. We need that because there are those who would otherwise lead us away from true faith in God.

Yes everyone… we participate…but it is CHrist’s work…not our that does everything.

“Without me, you can do NOTHING”.

We participate …but the question was who does the saving. IT IS CHRIST

our faith and goodworks are like the things a little kid contributes to the parent helping cook in the kitchin. Mom is doing thhe cooking…but the parent loves to teach and permit us to participate and simply…be with them and enter into their experience (life).

This is what God does with us…a FREE gift …an entrance into His own blessed life = sanctifying grace.

Faith itself is a gift!
The ability to pray it says in scripture is a work of God! It’s not even ours!
The ability to do ANYTHING let alone good works requires God.

He is TRULY our life and our only hope and He alone saves.

Michael

In reality this is a loaded question.

Answering ‘Yes’ would be incorrect, because Jesus/God saves us, nothing we do could save us, otherwise Christ would not have needed to die.

Answering ‘No’ would be incorrect, because then we’d be saying that we do not need any of the Sacraments to be saved (and, therefore, going to Church on Sunday’s, being baptized, etc. are not necessary for Salvation).

In the Old Testament, God gave man the Law, which was a system of religion. Now, it has been well established that the Law in itself could not Save anyone. However, those that obeyed the Law obeyed Gods commands, and were Saved by Jesus when He remained 3 days with them in Hades, and after the resurrection took them up to heaven with Him (1 Peter 3:19).

In the New Testament, Jesus said he did not come to abolish the Law, but to fulfill it (Matthew 5:17). Therefore, Jesus was not taking away from God’s commands, but fulfilling them by making them fountains of life-giving Grace. He says, “If you love me, you will obey my commands.” (John 14:15). Therefore, it is Jesus who does Save us, but it is Jesus that requires that we follow His commands. And those commands are obeyed by participating in the Sacraments. Since the definition of ‘religion’ is a body of persons adhering to a particular set of beliefs and practices; a ritual observance of faith, then it is Jesus who gave us our Catholic religion, and it is through that religion that we obey His commands.

Religion is the state of which we are save: heaven.

it can save us for it is a life with God.

Jesus did die for his wife, Ephesians 5:30-31, to make her holy and pure, Ephesians 5:26-27. Jesus did say that he is the way and truth in John 6:14, so if he became 1 with his wife, the Church, then yes faith can save you if you follow the RCC teaching b/c that is who Jesus got married to and gave himself for.

Faith in Christ saves you.

Religion is mostly traditions of men, which cannot save you.
This is inaccurate.

Religion is the means by which Christ established and by which He saves us. Religion is the means by which fallen humanity can come into contact with the infinite.

It can save no one. Sadly there are many who think it can. From what I’ve heard, this kind of idolatry is very prevalent in Pakistan. There are places that are literally right across from a masjid in which people go to to worship some dead person at their grave, thinking that that’s going to bless them or that this person will shade them from Allah’s judgment. What’s even more common, and this isn’t just in Pakistan, is deifying sheikhs (associating attributes to them that only God has).

It’s a circus. It’s like a Benny Hinn conference or something.

First we must define what Religion is.

Most everyone here will agree that God created the Universe and all that is in it. All of Creation was good, because God does not make things that are not good. Lucifer and his followers were good, and like mankind had free will, they used their free will to reject God’s plan for creation. Our first parents were created and good, but like Lucifer rejected God’s will for creation.

Religion, comes from the Latin words, Re and Lingo, which is to tie back to, or bind back to. The purpose of religion, and here as Catholics we are talking about True Religion, or the Catholic Church, we see that God has founded for us a means of dispensing His Graces so we can return to, or re-bind ourselves back to Him. The Church is the means Christ gave us, the structure within which He acts, and willed us to be restored to life according to His will.

So Religion as an abstract, or purely human structure, no it does not save. But Religion as the Means of Grace given us by Christ Jesus, so that we can obtain the Graces through the actions of Christ in the Sacraments, and the spiritual sustenance we need to persevere and cooperate with God’s will.
