I go to mass every Sunday and this recent Sunday I brought my friend along who doesn’t have much faith. She came to me after mass asking me if a nun can help a priest with an exorcism. It probably came up when she saw that new movie The nun. I didn’t quite know how to answer, can anyone help me out?

It depends on what you mean by “help a priest with an exorcism”.

Nuns and even lay people can help by praying in support, or by doing practical things like bringing supplies to the room (bed linens, holy water, etc).

Nuns and lay people don’t say the Rite of Exorcism prayers calling out the demons. That’s for the priest to do.

Oh okay, thank you. I didnt know what exact role a nun could play during that situation. I explained to my friend that nuns can’t say the rite of exorcism, because it needs to be an ordained priest. Thank you again!
