I saw the movie and almost left the room a good number of times. I was mad at the nonsense mixed with “positive” thinking nonsense. My sister in law kept saying that I should just watch it and see what good things it has to say. I felt a little depressed after all the positive messages.
I do trust that God will give me what I need. I do struggle in that trust at times, and I think that is normal, but with my in laws that is tabou. Everything is FUN FUN FUN all the time.

My in laws love that stuff, and they think that all we have to do is think positively and everything will work out.

I often do feel that they think that all the good things that happen to them happen because of their “positive attitude”. I do enjoy my simple life and I have no desire to do the expensive things that they do, but I often feel that they think I don’t have any fun because I am such a sour puss about the “get rich and healthy now” messages that they spout. I just don’t want what they want out of life. This same stuff comes across from them when they sign up for new MLM products. Each product is the key to a life of prosperity and helping others. I cringe and want to cry.

Whenever I start arguing against things that “The secret” talks about I end up being made to look like I have no faith in the goodness of God. Why do I always end up being trapped there?

What can I do to avoid being locked in that position?

How can I point out what is wrong with “The Secret”?

Satan has a way of creeping into our minds what we might think is good for us but it’s not.

This “secret” makes us turn to “us” instead of to God or Jesus.

Hi, Jehanne Darc, Good questions! I love AlegreFe’s points about turning to us instead of God, & that what we think is good for us is probably very different than what God knows is good for us. There are 2 other threads on the secret, & someone brought up the very good point that the secret’s philosophy that we can know, do & be everything is very much like the temptation that led to original sin.

You trust in the goodness of God, but you understand that as Christians, we have to pick up our cross, as well. What good parent would give their child absolutely everything they asked for? We shouldn’t expect God, too, either.

Also, the secret goes way beyond positive thinking & ask & you’ll receive. The goal is to learn to harness the “power of the universe” to get what you want. This power is not from God & is demonic. The secret is based on gnostic & occult practices. Hang in there with your family, & when you’re able to, try & show them the joy that only comes from truly following Christ! (For me, I find the joy part hard a lot of the times, But Jesus wants to give it to us, just not with a Corvette attached)
