I was told by my protenstant brother. That the dead can not hear nor can they intercede. He also quote a verse in the book of Plams where it says the dead can not hear. Who can I answer him

When one is “Dead” they are in Hell and cannot interceed for us. However when one is “Alive in Eternal Life” they are united to God, in the presence of God and as such can and do interceed for us.

Their carnal bodies can’t hear us, because they ceased functioning in the sense that nerve impulses no longer carry messages from the ear bones to the brain and get processed.

If your Protestant brother believes we are all one body in Him, and share one spirit, then he might believe that your spirit can talk to his spirit and that your physically speaking can enable this communication.

As far as I’m concerned, My spirit has been affected by the spirits of everyone I ever knew or knew about, and a part of them lives on within me – whether that’s good or bad.

Of course, none of this is based on sound theology. I just made it up on the spot.

Jesus said, “…have you not read what was said to you by God, ‘I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? He is not God of the dead, but of the living” (Matthew 22:32).

Those who die in God’s friendship aren’t really dead; they are totally alive in Him. And so the charge that “the dead cannot hear” doesn’t apply to these *kind *of dead.

Those who die rejecting God, on the other hand, . . .

Assuming you are referring to somebody who has died on earth but went to heaven (“dead”) then we have a few references in the Bible where the “dead” had a conversation with people on earth. (I do not like using the word dead in this instance but I’ll go with it for now.)

See Matthew 17:3. Here are people that have passed this world who not only heard but spoke and appeared to people on earth.

Some people start to complicate things and use words like omni-present.
