Can the Pope be fallable?

As I understand, God said unto the first Pope that whatsoever he held true on Earth, God would hold true in Heaven. The way I see this is essentially; What the Pope says, goes. What happens were the Pope to declare something that countermandered another aspect of the Catholic faith?
