Can there be a science of good and evil?

I’m not the one insisting on a “mutually exclusive or.” I think that if morality is thought of as human flourishing it is entirely consistent with what is meant by God’s moral law. I don’t think you have to choose one or the other. But you said “morality is really not about "human flourishing”."
Let us approach this from your point of view. From your point of view, does “human flourishing” contain the direct purpose of human life which includes the spiritual goal of human nature? Human nature is described as rational/corporeal, spirit/matter, material/non-material, soul/body.

Once I understand your point of view, for example – if from your point of view, the spiritual is essential – then we can proceed in a better fashion.

Now as I understand the posts so far, “human flourishing” is relative to the good stuff without ever considering that “human flourishing” could mean giving up some of the good old stuff.

My apology. Perhaps where I have misled you is that from my point of view “human flourishing” is in the same category as giving my cousin Chilly Chimp better living quarters.

Again, my sincere apology. Now I see that what has happened is that this thread appears to be dedicated to Sam Harris. Ah, no wonder, I took what you were saying as regarding materialism only. Now, please don’t misunderstand me. Materialism only is great when it is applied to my cousin Chilly Chimp. But I have to admit that I do get a tad cranky (feminine of snarky) when someone tries to deny my own human nature.:o

So, are you up to erasing the line in the sand? And starting over with clearer concepts based on true human nature?

Blessings,
granny

The human person, soul and body, is worthy of profound respect from the moment of conception.
