Can we Catholics speak in tongues?

A protestant pastor asked me if I have ever spoken in tongues. I said I tried to way back in high school, but not since. He asked why not and I said I didn’t feel called or worthy. He invited me to chat about it and how it could be a very powerful weapon against evil in these dark times.
It isn’t something I hear about in the Catholic Church. Protestants like to talk it up. I believe there must be interpreters present if someone speaks in tongues, otherwise anyone can claim to be doing it. And who knows if the interpreter isn’t making it up? I’m cautious and skeptical. Please advise.
