Can we hang a rosary from the Blessed Mother's hands?

We are having a disagreement about the proper use of a statue of Our Lady of Grace in our church. We say the rosary every Sunday before Mass. The rosary group has hung a rosary from the hands of the statue. Another group does not like the rosary on the statue. Can you tell me which way this should be handled? This has caused a huge problem and a split in our church. Larger than you can imagine.

I’m having a hard time imagining a parish of adult Catholics fighting over whether or not to hang a rosary from the hands of a statue of the Blessed Mother. What on earth is there to argue about? If the group saying the rosary likes to do this and takes the rosary with them when they’re finished, why should anyone complain? And why is the pastor allowing such a trivial matter to upset the spiritual peace of his parish?
