A good friend said today that relgion is not necessary only a relationship with Jesus is. How can I respond to this?

Hi,

Were it not for religion, your friend would only know Jesus as a historical figure from history. But if your friend acknowledges Jesus as Lord, then he is performing an act religion. Certainly, religion is seen as a body of beliefs and requirements. But according to Aquinas, first of all it is a virtue that is about giving what is due. It is a matter of justice.

To acknowledge God to be God is to worship Him. The moment we do this, there is religion and we are in the middle of it whether we like or not!
