Can a lay person heal someone else,(through the working of the Holy Spirit of course)? This non-denomination church I am aware of claims to heal people of their illness with all credit going to God. They lay on hands and with the pastor evoking the power of the Holy Spirit the pastor then claims the person is healed. Of course it was for an illness for which there was no immediate sign of being healed. This person was then told to claim her healing and to know that she had been healed.

The bible refers to healings by the apostles but was healing meant to be done by anyone or just those chosen by Jesus?

The brief answer is “yes.” One of the most powerful instances of this occured with my best friend. She prayed over someone who suffered severe brain damage from an auto wreck, and he was healed.

The conditions:
  1. We can heal no one. God heals people. He uses our prayers to do so.
  2. You asked if it can still be done now, or only by those he had “chosen.” The answer is yes to both. Only those wich the Holy Spirit specifically chooses to work healings through, do they actually occur. So yes, you must be chosen, but people are still chosen today. And you don’t really know if you’re chosen unless you try to pray over others for healing, and ask God to show you if he wants you to have the gift or not. If you have a very strong desire for the gift, it may be God wanting to give it to you.
Possibly the best known faith-healer is Benny Hinn, but there is a good possibility that he is a fraud. Extensive discussion on him in the non-catholic religions forum.

However, this ministry is not limited to protestants. In addition to my friend, I’ve met a few Catholic priests who have a healing ministry.

I would also like to note that the way you described the protestant service sounds kinda iffy. Discern for yourself whether it was authentic or not.
