Since we can ask saints to intercede for us, is it acceptable to ask loved ones to intercede in the hopes that they have become saints in heaven, even though not canonized?
Yes, we indeed can ask deceased loved ones to pray for us in hopes that they died in a state of grace and are now with God, whether that be in heaven or in purgatory. Whether they are in heaven or in purgatory, our loved ones can pray for us and for our needs even more effectively than they possibly could have during this life.
