Is it possible to sin in heaven? The devil was thrown out of heaven which means he did something wrong (sin). What do you guys think?

Absolutely not! Your free will is gone your only desire is to be with Christ! The devil blew it when he was given free will and made a bad decision. Many say in purgatory when freewill is gone from your soul your greatest desire and burning is to see Christ.

The Second Letter Peter makes it very clear that the fallen angels (now devils) did sin:
“*God did not spare the angles when they sinned, but cast them into hell”.(2 *Peter 2:4)

But can WE sin in heaven? That’s a different question. We aren’t angels. We enter heaven because Jesus conquered sin, and if Jesus conquered sin, then sin should remain conquered.

Paul writes about the “inner conflict” in Romans 7:14-25. He says that he is of the flesh therefore sins when he doesn’t want to sin. He asks *“who will resue me from this body of death? Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord!” *

Even when we don’t want to sin, we sometimes sin here on earth, but I don’t think St. Paul faces that same struggle now in heaven. He was saved through Christ Jesus. I think once we enter heaven we will neither desire to sin, nor suffer the weaknesses of the flesh that lead us to sin. I don’t think our free will is gone, but we will be free from the weakness of the flesh so we can freely choose God.

The short answer? **NO!!! **All temptation will be gone, as will our desire to rebel. :yup: :clapping: :amen:

The will remains free even though one is incapable of sinning. One is still able to make choices between various goods (just as you are here when you choose what present to buy for someone). And, true freedom is to be free to do what is right and being incapable of sinning is perfectly compatible with that. In fact, being made incapable of sinning is according to St Anselm a “perfection” of freedom. So in Heaven our wills become not less free, but more free.

We could rephrase the question:

Can the Temptations of the Devil pierce through the Pearly Gates?

I think not.

I don’t know much about this, but from what I’ve heard, the angels likely had a test similar to ours. If they passed, they would experience the Beatific Vision and be in Heaven with God forever, but they were not given that kind of union with God until they chose Him. They initially saw a glimpse of God. I’m not sure if this is only one theory among many or if it is considered to be the most likely case, but I’ve heard it more than once before, and it makes sense. It would also explain that no one can sin in Heaven, although we still have our free will. Grace perfects nature; it does not destroy it.

Yes that’s right. I wouldn’t call it a “glimpse of God,” though I guess that works as poetic language. I believe they knew God in an intuitive way. St Anselm has an interesting explanation of sin as being a choice over happiness over justice and how the people in Heaven can’t sin any more because they have received all the happiness they could have ever dreamed of and so there’s no way for them to choose happiness over justice as the two are no longer in any conflict. There’s more to his explanation obviously, but that’s a sketch.

the angels were in heaven to begin with, so those who rejected God’s will were banished from heaven. Adam and Eve were in the garden of Eden to begin with, rejected the will of God and were banished. The difference is the fallen angels were given one chance, one test and rejected God utterly for all eternity. Adam and Eve admitted their sin and repented, and were given the promise of redemption and salvation, which arrived in the fullness of time on the person of Jesus Christ. When men enter heaven it is because they have accepted God utterly and completely surrendered to His will, for all eternity, so they remain in His presence.

Hello xxpnoisnxx,

Jesus assures us that no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are begotten of God (JOH 3:3). Satan is never begotten of God. Scripture tells us that angels, including fallen angel Satan, are in ‘heaven’ before Christ’s death and ressurection. What ever scripture is referring to as ‘heaven’ before Christ’s ressurection is not God’s eternal kingdom which is born into heaven through the blood of the Lamb. Satan is cast out of ‘heaven’ by the power of the blood of the Lamb (REV 12:7-12). Satan dies in the ‘second death’(REV 20). Saints born into eternal life as a part of God’s eternal kingdom, cannot be harmed by the second death (REV 2:11)(REV 20:6). Fallen angel Satan is never part of God’s eternal kingdom which is born into in heaven through the blood of the Lamb.

And no, you cannot murder, adulter, steal or fail to care for the poor in heaven.

Hello donosti,

If what you say were true, then how did Lucifer look God in the eye and then try to overthrow Him?

Satan was never begotten of God. When the Spirit if God is poured out on the saints and they are begotten of God into the kingdom of God, they will be one with God and will no longer have the option to disobey God.

no, the angels had one test, since they are heavenly beings their test was in heaven. Our test is on earth since we are earthly beings. Once we have made our choice, and been judged, at death, that’s it. Test over, by the way, it is pass/fail.

My Fiance wants to know if your question is a theological question or a request? waaaaaaa haaaaaaaaa
I read him the titles of the threads I am reading when I am in the forum. I about died laughing when he said that…Smile, Jesus loves you!!!
