My wife and I are both on the same page with this issue. We are not planning to have any other children. We have just been blessed with a second child in the last month. We were not honestly expecting another child and were using NFP religiously. We are both extremely high strung people and I have been diagnosed with Bipolar and major depression. We have been overwhelmed since having our first child and the addition of the second has us extremely overwhelmed. We don’t feel that we can continue to have additional children and maintain the sanity level required to provide well for them. This is not a financial issue. This is an emotional issue. Do we need to leave the church? Prayerful thought and contemplation has been our first option but we just are not willing to have additional children. We will continue to be unitive in our marriage as far as sexual relations and have used condoms in the last few weeks as we are terrified of the idea of having more children. We feel that having more children with the type of overwhelming distress that feels our hearts that we will be doing our other children a disservice. I understand Catholic Answers is very conservative and I already know the general idea of the answer but we are at our end and cannot continue to have children and maintain the level of sanity needed to continue taking care of our existing children. Are we bound for hell? I surely hope not. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
