CCC 846 “Hence they could not be saved who, knowing that the Catholic Church was founded as necessary by God through Christ, would refuse either to enter it or to remain in it.”

Webster’s defines “could” as 1) pt. of can 2) an auxiliary equivalent to can, expressing especially a shade of doubt (e.g., it could be so)

So have you arrived at a unanimous concensus yet as to whether the Church is going against the teachings of Christ in Matt 7:1 and judging they “can not” be saved? Or is She merely saying they “might not”?
Might not.

People might interpret it either way your question indicates, but the Catholic Church doesn’t.

Digger, you are the one who is suggesting that Candidates need not bother to go to Confession before their Confirmation and First Holy Communion.
I am not suggesting it, I am simply saying the Catholic Church does not require it.

Stealing from your mother violates two of the ten commandments, so it is, indeed, a mortal sin, if done with the full knowledge that mother will get angry if she finds out, and not under any kind of coercion (ie: no gun to the head).
This is absurd. A child commits a mortal sin by stealing a cookie from his mothers cookie jar. Now if he stole a cookie and put a Bear Trap in the jar for his mother to stick her hand in…that would be a mortal sin assuming that he is fully culpable and over the ripe old age of seven years. .

A cookie? That would rate as a venial sin in my book. If that is a mortal sin, then this poor kid has no chance of ever reaching heaven because every l"sin" that he commits will be as mortal sin in your viewpoint. You would have God just Waiting for any small discretioon like this to send this child to hell. 😦

:(Yes, you’re right.

Cookie theft by a child cannot qualify as mortal sin because it fails the 3 part test of mortal sin.
  1. Grave matter. It’s not.
  2. Knowledge. Marginal…depending upon the child.
  3. Full consent of the will. This too would be iffy.
As for your example…😃 I don’t know any 7 year old Daniel Boones, do you? 👍
