Can we wear a pyx?

Is it allowed for people to wear a blessed pyx everywhere they go? Even with no host in the pyx?
 
It is a general principle that those vessels used to hold the Eucharist are not used for anything else. That would mean that it would be inappropriate to turn a pyx into a pendant. It would be even worse, not to mention completely unpermitted, for someone to wear on a necklace a pyx that has a consecrated host inside.
