Can you answer another question on Purgatory?

When Jesus was crucified, He told the one thief that he would be with Him in paradise today. Wouldn’t this sort of tell us that we go straight to heaven upon death instead of purgatory first? I believe in purgatory but this question came into my mind when saying the rosary

Hi Mike,

Jesus didn’t send the thief immediately to heaven. He allowed the man to be crucified first which provided him with the temporal punishment for his sins. One can suffer one’s purgatory on earth. That example only underscores the reality of purgatory.
