Yeah, so this is a interesting thread lol.
We need to assent to Church teaching in order to be Catholic. So no, believing the bible is allegory is not acceptable. There are word pictures and not everything is literal, but we must believe in a real Adam/Eve/Jesus/Mary, etc.
I’ll hope you will sign up for RCIA and pray about it, anyway, though. Ask questions there and here and be open to the Holy Spirit.
