i was wondering this b/c i believe along the same lines as the catholic faith but since both of my parents-i’m 16-are baptist i have to go to a baptist church…i just want some feedback on this.

You can be either one or the other. To be Catholic, you must believe all what the Holy Mother, the Church teaches. Baptist don’t share the same faith as Catholics. You can’t be half this, half that. You have to be one or the other. You have to seek the Truth. You have to find the one faith that bears the four marks of the Church of Christ. The four marks of the Church are the following:
- It is One. The Church professes One faith. It’s doctrine are unchanging. The deposit of faith has been handed down to us from Jesus Christ, through his Apostles, and was handed down to the bishops.
- It is Holy. The Church is Holy because the Head of the Church is Jesus Christ. Jesus is Holy. The Church has been purified by the Blood of the Lamb. It’s members maybe sinful and imperfect, but the Soul of the Church is the Holy Spirit.
- It is Apostolic, it has its origins from the Apostles who handed their authority to the bishops, their successors.
- It is Catholic, or universal, and open to all people.

No. When you are of age to leave home, you will be able to become a Catholic, if you want to. I also like to add jmrae’s comment. If one claims to be half Catholic, he cannot fully practice the Catholic faith and received Holy Communion.
If a half Catholic does, and he held Baptist belief, which are contrary to the teachings of the Catholic Church, he cannot fully received Holy Communion. He must form his conscious to seek the Truth. That Truth who is Jesus can only be found in the Church, which is the Pillar and Bulwark of the Truth.

Half-Catholic + half-Protestant = Anglican/Episcopalian
I think I had the same dilemma. I read and studied the Early Church Fathers as well as Catholicism and Orthodoxy for years. It didn’t happen overnight. Stay on this site and you will learn more than you ever thought you could…

From your post, it looks like YOU are someone who wants to convert to Catholic and your Parents are Baptist. Your parents beliefs don’t make you half Baptist. It’s not genetic like Skin tone. 
So saying you are half-thisorthatreligion etc is not going to work.
I doubt you can become Catholic when you are underage without your parents blessing. Have you discussed this with them?

Actually, I have a whole parish who are Catholic but think their Protestant.
So, yes I ‘know’ one can be half-Catholic and half-Protestant because the Roman Catholic Church is FULL of them!

but it could be very confusing to the original poster. The answer is “no,” even a bad Catholic who acts like a Protestant is still a Catholic; not a Protestant. And vice versa.

I know that, at 16, it looks like forever, but 18 is really not all that far off for you…And you can be praying & studying in the meantime, to understand whether this is, indeed, what you are being called to do.

Many of my beliefs are Catholic, but I’m a member of the Lutheran-Evangelical church, so I am a Lutheran really.
And please do not let your parents decide your religion, if I did I would be atheist.
There was a time when what they taught me(or didn’t teach me) had an effect on me, but I’m 18 now.And what do you mean by that you “have to” go to a Baptist church?
